Promoting Wellbeing in Ageing: the Role of Music, London – 22 February

The seminar will consist of a presentation of findings from an ESRC funded ‘New Dynamics of Ageing’ research project, followed by a discussion of ways to develop opportunities for active music making for older people in local communities.

This seminar will be of particular interest to policymakers, Music Services, Music Education Hub lead organisations and anyone involved in making music in local communities.

CARE Seminar: ‘Artshine – Arts and Health in Primary Care’, Bristol – 27 February

Artshine is an arts on referral service for Inner City & East Bristol GPs, delivered by Bristol Public Health in partnership with Bristol City Council.

It promotes wellbeing, positive mental health and social inclusion through engagement with arts and creative practice. Project Manager, Louisa Newman, will present an overview of the service including findings from the project’s first year evaluation.

The Artist in the Archive workshops – various January / February 2012

The Artist in the Archive is a short programme of free workshops to meet the growing interest in collaborating with film, TV and sound collections, particularly those held by the BFI and the BBC.

A BFI project in association with Archives for Creativity and supported by Arts Council London, the workshops will be held in early 2012. Speakers will be drawn from the BBC, BFI, LUX, Smoking Dogs, People Like Us and Archives for Creativity.

Each workshop will include:

Anatomy Season: Workshops - November / December

Clod Ensemble’s Performing Medicine - The Anatomy Season offers a range of workshops designed to explore anatomy and the body through movement, voice and anatomical study. Workshop sessions range from 2 hours to entire weekends.

Emotional Learning Cards workshop – 26 November

Demonstration workshop for Iniva's latest set of Emotional Learning Cards.  Iniva and A Space have published a second set of Emotional Learning Cards, Who are you? Where are you going?, following the success of the What do you feel? cards, praised by teachers, parents and art therapists.

This second set is a resource to stimulate creative exploration of personal and cultural transitions in order to give a deeper self-understanding and direction. The cards can be used in individual or group therapy work, in a school or college, galleries or museums and at home.

Reducing violence and aggression in A&E webinars – 18 November

According to the National Audit Office, violence and aggression towards frontline hospital staff is estimated to cost the NHS at least £69 million a year in staff absence, loss of productivity and additional security.

The Design Council is running a series of free webinars to explore how designers and design research can help reduce violence and aggression in A&E.

Using the Arts with Juvenile and Young Offenders Training, Artswork, Gateshead – 21 March 2012

A one-day workshop exploring the benefits of using creative activities with young offenders, both within the community and the secure estate. Developed in partnership with SOFT TOUCH this course will examine practical issues, such as those encountered in secure units and personal issues, such as motivation and the development of the young people. The course will use a mixture of training techniques to help educate and inform.

Activating Support for Self-Management, London – 23 November

This seminar will discuss how commissioners and clinicians can engage with self-management with a worked example from Oxfordshire PCT, which has pioneered a different model of long-term condition service provision in partnership with the Expert Patients Programme Community Interest Company (EPP CIC).
