Therapeutic music video interventions

Research published in the American Journal of Cancer has found that young people who had engaged in therapeutic music activities whilst undergoing cancer treatment fare better in terms of coping and social interaction. The randomised control trial which analysed the progress of 113 young participants undergoing stem cell treatments evaluated the impact of therapeutic music video interventions – where participants make their own music videos. It found that music therapy “improves positive health outcomes of courageous coping, social integration, and family environment during a high-risk cancer treatment” and recommended increased opportunities for music therapy for young people receiving cancer treatment.
