National Alliance for Arts, Health and Wellbeing publishes All Party Parliamentary Group minutes

As previously reported in this newsletter the new All Party Parliamentary Group for Arts, Health and Wellbeing met for the first time in early July. The meeting was themed around the Care Act and examined the ways that arts and culture can contribute to the quality of care following the Francis Inquiry. It was well attended by politicians from both Houses of Parliament and all three main political parties.

The keynote speaker was Sir Robert Francis QC, (author of the Francis Report) along with Dr Ellen Storm (winner of the Hippocrates Prize for Poetry), Nikki Crane from Guy’s and St Thomas’s Charity and Suzy Wilson, Artistic Director of Clod Ensemble. The discussion focused on the role the arts can play in medical training and in creating a culture of care in health organisations.

The minutes of the meeting are now available at w: www.artshealthandwellbeing.org.uk/APPG

Future meetings will address the arts and dementia and the way in which the arts can contribute to delivering parity of esteem between mental and physical health provision.
