Artists Action Research Bursary, Yorkshire Artspace – deadline 1 October

Yorkshire Artspace is currently seeking applications from early career stage artists/practitioners who are interested in developing ideas/work in a social context.

The Yorkshire Artspace action research bursary is part of its Starter Studio Programmes and provides time, space and money to research, actively test ideas and explore approaches to socially engaged practice in a 'real-life' setting.

Negotiating the Arts Landscape – Arts Development UK annual national conference, York – 18&19 October

This year the AD:uk conference takes place at The York Barbican, and is hosted by the City of York Council.

The conference will explore issues including:

  •   changing arts development to fit the future
  •   real Localism and how to achieve it
  •   useful maps for navigating the political and economic landscape
  •   new commissioning and delivery opportunities

The event will offer a mix of keynote presentations, breakouts, study tours, skills and knowledge exchanges and discussion groups.

Artists wanted, Acute Mental Health Inpatient Unit, Rotherham, Rotherham MBC & RdaSH – deadline 9 July

2 artists (1 to be visual) are sought to become 'artists-in-residence' at the unit for 1 day a week over an 18-week spell. This day will include group sessions and could also include 1:1 or 2:1 sessions, depending on the client group that day. The project is an Action Research project; it is crucial that the artists work closely with unit and project staff to help enable this evaluation.

“You’re Not Alone” The Children’s Hospital Sheffield – until June

Andy BrownBehind the scenes photographs of The Children’s Hospital, Sheffield, are helping to reassure anxious families.  Three local photographers were given unlimited access to the hospital last autumn and the result is ‘You’re Not Alone’; the first exhibition to be displayed on the hospital’s ‘Long Gallery’.

Memory Bank Development Manager, Yorkshire Film Archive

Yorkshire Film Archive has worked in partnership with a range of health and social care providers to develop Memory Bank - an accessible range of practical tools using archive film footage to support and enhance reminiscence and memory work, lifting mood, improving communication and increasing a sense of wellbeing.

Artists wanted, Older People Project, Rotherham MBC – deadline 26 February

Artists are wanted for a project in an Older People’s Mental Health Unit in the grounds of Rotherham General Hospital.

3 artists are wanted, 1 visual artist to possibly create sensory work such as ‘touch boards/pictures’ 1 musician and 1 other artist from any discipline.

Fee: £100 per workshop inclusive of VAT & all other expenses, materials budget is separate.

Creative Engagement Facilitator, Broadacres Housing Association, Yorkshire – deadline 19 December

Broadacres Housing Association provides a comprehensive range of services to over 5,000 homes in North Yorkshire.

The organisation strives to involve as many of its customers as possible in Broadacres activities and seeks to achieve this using a wide variety of arts mediums, including music, drama and digital media.

Reporting to the Community Development Co-ordinator, the Facilitator will be responsible for delivering arts based creative engagement projects.

£23,000 pro rata, 21 hours/week, 2 year fixed term contract

Rotherham MBC (Arts & Health) launches arts and mental health action research project

Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council, in partnership with the Rotherham, Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust is launching a research initiative into the impact of an arts project which is currently being run within a secure mental health unit and on a mental health ward.
