Creative Health CIC and Staffordshire Arts & Museums Service have announced their plans to merge the praXis and Creative Remedies websites and develop a new resource for arts and health practitioners across the region.

Community and Participatory Arts, Short Course Opportunities at Staffordshire University

The Postgraduate Community and Participatory Arts Programme has developed three short courses to help people using community arts to specialise and develop their expertise:

Marie Curie Cancer Care West Midlands Hospice: Call for Submissions – deadline 2 December

Marie Curie Cancer Care provides specialist support and care for cancer patients and their families, aiming to give patients the best possible quality of life, meeting all of their medical, spiritual and social needs, whilst providing their families with the emotional support they may need.

The West Midlands Hospice will be a purpose built hospice, situated close to Solihull Town Centre and caring for people in the surrounding areas.

Illustrator / Designer for Voices Through Corridors HLF project, Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust – deadline 8 November

Voices Through Corridors is a Heritage Lottery Funded project which aims to explore the heritage of the Manor Hospital in Walsall from 1930 to the present day.

A collection of Oral Histories will be recorded including genuine life stories and memories that capture the rich historical background of the hospital. The memories will then be displayed in visual transcripts along the hospital corridors as well as being recorded on audio CD format and archived in the Walsall Local History Centre for public access.

An Insider Guide to Working With Volunteers, Praxis Arts and Health, Birmingham – 14 November

Praxis’ series of Insider Guide events continues with An Insider Guide to Working with Volunteers, in partnership with Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust.

Volunteers are becoming an increasingly important resource in a range of arts and health work. Presentations and case studies will explore some of the issues of working with volunteers including:

  * Recruiting volunteers

  * Keeping volunteers motivated

  * The different roles volunteers can play in your work

  * Balancing the needs of volunteers and participants

Accreditation and the Arts , Half Day Seminar, Artswork , Birmingham – 9 November

Understanding the QCF, units and qualifications.  The seminar aims to broaden understanding of accreditation. It will look at the current context for accredited provision within England and will aim to demystify the mass of terminology that surrounds accredited training.

Artswork hopes that this seminar will be useful to anyone delivering arts projects, programmes, courses and workshops who are keen to investigate the benefits and challenges of accreditation and to get an insight into how their services might benefit.

New Arts and Health Awards scheme for the West Midlands, praXis & Creative Remedies – deadline 25 November

Recognising, supporting and promoting innovation in Arts & Health in the West Midlands.

praXis Creative Remedies Arts and Health Awards is a new awards scheme for artists, organisations, students or groups providing an opportunity for work to be recognised, promoted and shared with others.

Winners will be awarded a place on a professional development programme and support for the development of a practical project.

The Postgraduate Community and Participatory Arts Programme at Staffordshire University develops involvement in this field of work, and supports practitioners to gain skills and knowledge.

The module options include a range of specialisms including Community Arts In Global perspective and The Artist Professional Development programme - Developing Arts For Health.
