Call for Freelance Artists for the Imagine project – deadline 1 September 2014

City Arts are seeking 3 artists to run a 10 week programme using iPads to inspire creativity in Care Home residents across Nottingham. There is a specific focus on individuals living with dementia. The aim is to inspire creativity for individuals living with dementia and older people in residential care, enhance their ability to communicate digitally, raise their curiosity about digital technology and overall engagement in the arts. Artists will be working closely with older people, their families and care staff.

Public art work commissions in Derby – deadline 2 June 2014

The Nightingale Macmillan Unit at Royal Derby Hospital is commissioning public art work to enhance the approach and welcome to the public entrance for Cancer Services at Royal Derby Hospital. It is imagined that this would compose of two commissions: one to provide an external way finding beacon and enhance the approach, while the other would enhance the welcome at the entrance foyer and patient drop off/pick up point.

Dance activities with older people – 3 May 2014

Birmingham Royal Ballet is hosting a two day certificated weekend intensive course for dancers, activity leaders and other practitioners who want to gain skills, knowledge and experience in leading dance activities with older people.

Creativity in Care

Nottingham’s City Arts has published an evaluation of its Creativity in Care programme. It highlights key learning from the project, which included an artist’s residency, mentoring for activity co-ordinators and several training events. 

Evaluating Enrichment - 21 February 2014

The Arts Alliance is running a seminar focusing on evaluating and evidencing creative interventions with offenders. It will also consider how to reconcile differing theories and methods of evaluation for activities that don't conform to traditional output and outcome models. The seminar will include current debates in social science research methodology, information from the Ministry of Justice on the Justice Data Lab and contributions from the National Offender Management Services on Intermediate Outcomes.

Clay Transformations

The University of Nottingham is investigating the therapeutic effects of working with clay. It has launched a new website and is inviting contributions from those who use clay therapeutically in their work or are interested more generally in the therapeutic use of clay.

Link between choirs and wellbeing

Researchers at Oxford Brookes University have found a link between choral participation and positive psychological wellbeing. An online study asked 375 people who sang in choirs, sang alone or were members of sports teams about their experience of these activities.

Music in healthcare settings symposium – 25 November 2013

A one day symposium in Derby will look into the issues involved in sustaining professional music in healthcare settings. Hosted by OPUS Music CIC, the day will bring together musicians, healthcare professionals, academics and other partners involved in the development of music (and arts) in healthcare settings practice from across the UK and beyond. The symposium is open to all with an interest in this practice (subject to capacity). A charge of £10 per delegate will be made towards the costs of running the symposium.

Wellbeing Hi-5 - Leicestershire

Arts, cultural and heritage organisations in the East Midlands are invited to submit events for the Wellbeing Hi-5, a month of events taking place this October. All events are eligible as long as they promote one or more of the Five Ways to Wellbeing (Giving, Taking Notice, Connecting, Being Active, Learning). This year Wellbeing Hi-5 is specifically looking at how taking part in arts, culture and heritage activities can promote Healthy Lifestyles.
