Patients with long-term conditions disempowered

A new survey of patients with long-term conditions shows that a third are not satisfied with their care and that better integration of mental and physical health provision would improve care delivery.

The report by the Institute of Public Policy Research think tank shows that more empowered patients feel they receive a higher quality of care. The keys to greater empowerment include: better access to medical records, peer support from people with similar conditions and a more integrated care plan. 2,500 patients were questioned as part of the “Patients in Control” report which recommended that more patients could self-manage their conditions if the NHS was to take a more holistic approach.
