Irish Research Council and Arts Council partner to encourage collaboration between arts and academic communities

The Irish Research Council and Arts Council have announced a new strategic partnership to encourage greater collaboration between academics and the arts.

The collaboration will see the two agencies working together over the next three years.

Commenting on the partnership, Professor Jane Ohlmeyer, Chair of the Irish Research Council, said: "The Irish Research Council is committed to supporting research across all disciplines. Half of the 280 awards we announced recently under the Government of Ireland programmes are in the arts, humanities and social science disciplines."

New agreement signed between Arts Council England and London Councils

The new Memorandum of Understanding highlights four key principles: an integrated, place-based approach; building capacity and resilience of the arts and culture sector and the creative industries; extending access to arts and culture; and strategic collaboration and advocacy. The focus is on supporting local authorities to work in more creative ways to achieve their goals.

European Outsider Art Association conference – submissions deadline 30 October

Outside In will host the European Outsider Art Association conference from 4-6 May 2018 at Pallant House Gallery in Chichester. It is seeking proposals for presentations on the theme of the "Artist's Voice". Proposals are welcomed from artists, studio groups and anyone who has something interesting and engaging to say on the topic of the artist and how best to support them. Presentations can take any form; from a PowerPoint to a performance.

Creative Industries Federation criticizes lack of detail over Brexit

The CIF has joined criticisms of the Prime Minister’s conference speech for failing to provide the detail to reassure British businesses “that the government has a grip on the Brexit process”. The Federation also highlights the creative industries’ concern at the “consistent failure to prioritise the education and skills needs of the sector” and the two main parties failure to address the need to retain and attract international artists after Brexit.
