RSPH Award for Well London

The Well London Alliance Partnership has won a Health Promotion and Community Wellbeing award from the Royal Society for Public Health. The award recognises Well London’s achievements and innovative approach to promoting community health in 20 of London's most disadvantaged areas. The award will be presented at the House of Lords in November. The RSPH will also produce an article for the "Perspectives in Public Health" journal in early 2012.

An Overview of the Health Transition

Regional Voices has updated its briefing about the health transition and the implications for the voluntary and community sector (VCS), following the outcomes of the first Future Forum listening exercise. The briefing outlines the 'emerging' clinical commissioning groups, Health & Well Being Boards, HealthWatch, PCT clusters, the NHS Commissioning Board and the transition timeline. LVSC has adapted a London version of this briefing.

LVSC launches On the Radar database

The online database contains in-depth information about voluntary and community sector organisations that deliver public health services in London.

At present On the Radar mainly contains information about alcohol services. However, drug, mental health, healthy eating, physical activity and many others will gradually be added as the database expands.

Public health concerns raised

Nearly 400 leading figures in the field of public health have written an open letter to the Government outlining a range of concerns about proposed changes to the NHS and warning of the dangers of a more fragmented service. The letter – from Directors of public health and other figures including Sir Michael Marmot was sent to members of the House of Lords in advance of their review of the NHS bill later this month.

Health Select Committee inquiry into public health
