Cultural park in East London

The government has announced £141m towards the creation of “Olympicopolis”, a culture and education quarter on the Queen Elizabeth Park in east London.

The site will include branches of the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) and Sadler’s Wells, a dance theatre, alongside campuses for University College London and the University of the Arts London.

The funding was announced in the Chancellor’s Autumn statement.

Streetwise Opera to give homeless performers a platform in the Olympics at the Royal Opera House

Streetwise Opera will be presenting an Open Mic event called With One Voice on 2 July 2012 during the London 2012 Festival to showcase the skills of 200 performers who have experienced homelessness from all over the UK and abroad.

With One Voice will be hosted by the Royal Opera House in the Paul Hamlyn Hall in partnership with the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and Homeless Link. The evening will culminate in all performers and the audience coming together to sing a newly-commissioned work by composer Gavin Bryars.

London 2012 Cultural Olympiad, Local Leaders and Olympic Torch Relay

Various announcements relating to next year’s Olympics have been made, including:

1. Ruth Mackenzie, director of the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad, announced her plans for the London 2012 Festival, the finale of the Cultural Olympiad and launched the website www.london2012.com/festival.

London 2012 Inspire - deadline 1 December

Non-commercial projects and events inspired by the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games have until 1 December 2011 to apply to be a part of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games as an official London 2012 Inspire project.

Organisations that join the programme will be awarded the Inspire Mark and can use this special logo to promote their project or event as well as show that they are part of London 2012. After applications close in December, London 2012 will focus on supporting and showcasing the existing projects and events.
