Call for papers: Special Issue on Music and Singing Across the Lifespan – deadline 15 December

Arts & Health: An International Journal for Research, Policy and Practice, has announced a call for papers for a special issue of the journal on Music and Singing Across the Lifespan. The Journal is seeking to publish studies that address different age groups including children, young people, working age adults and older adults.

Empirical research involving large-scale studies is particularly encouraged but smaller scale controlled studies as well as theoretically rigorous qualitative work are also welcomed.

Call for papers ‘Attentive Writers’: Healthcare, Authorship, and Authority’ – deadline 1 February 2013

From nurses, physicians and surgeons to administrators, caregivers, physiotherapists, technicians, veterinarians and voluntary sector workers, this conference adopts the term ‘attentive writers’ as evocative of the multitude of both non-professional and professional caregivers – clinical and non-clinical healthcare workers – whose attention to illness might take narrative form.

Final deadline for submission of abstracts, Culture, Health and Wellbeing Conference – 21 December

The deadline for the submission of abstracts for presentations at the Culture, Health and Wellbeing International conference which will take place next June in Bristol is Friday 21 December. The conference, next June, looks set to host a large and diverse audience of arts and health practitioners from around the world and is being delivered by Arts & Health South West on behalf of the National Alliance for Arts, Health and Wellbeing with the support of the Royal Society for Public Health.

International Journal of User Driven Healthcare Call for Papers – deadline 1 January 2013

A call for papers has been issued for the International Journal of User-Driven Healthcare, which is published quarterly both in print and electronic form, for its issue on healthcare and the arts. This issue will seek to investigate the uses of music, theatre, dance, and the visual arts in the healthcare process. The following questions should be considered: What kinds of healing work can the arts facilitate; how do the fine and performing arts support the work of medical professionals and promote health?

Global Alliance for Arts and Health conference, call for presentations – 11-13 April 2013

The Global Alliance for Arts and Health will hold its 24th annual international conference, Healing Communities through the Arts, April 11-12, 2013, in Washington, DC, USA This conference will focus on programs and initiatives that expand arts and health beyond healthcare settings and into communities, because, like individual patients, whole communities face stressful circumstances that can benefit from the arts.

International Journal of Community Music, Call For Papers – deadline 1 August 2013

The International Journal of Community Music (IJCM) is a refereed journal that publishes three issues a year, covering a range of topics concerning all dimensions of community music as well as its relationship to connected fields of practice. This special issue is dedicated to Community Music Therapy: an emerging discourse and field of practice within music therapy and the wider field of music, health and wellbeing.

Call for virtual papers and presentations, The Arch of Arts in Health – deadline 15 December

The agenda for the March 2013 international conference The Arch of Arts in Health has been set. However the organisers are seeking virtual papers and presentations in the area of arts in health care settings that will be published in the final printed program and will also be linked to the conference website prior to the opening festivities.

The link to the virtual presentations will remain online on the conference website as a resource for scholars and practitioners until August 2014. Thereafter a link to the presentations will be available on the Lesley University website.

Setting the Tempo, Folkestone – 19 & 20 April 2013, call for abstracts deadline 30 September

The Sidney De Haan Research Centre for Arts and Health is hosting a two day conference looking at the issues facing research into Music Health and Wellbeing. An invitation for contributions to the conference has been issued, seeking papers which focus on the use of music in community health settings, in public health promotion and community development and the therapeutic application of music in health and social care settings.

International conference launched

Next summer’s international conference in Bristol has been launched with a call for abstracts. Organised by Arts and Health South West, the conference will bring together speakers from around the world over the course of three days in June to examine the themes of Healthy and Creative Ageing, Global Health Inequalities and Culture, and Culture and the Social Determinants of Wellbeing.

SEMPRE International Conference 'Setting the tempo' – 18-20 April 2013

The Sidney De Haan Research Centre for Arts and Health is currently engaged in research into the benefits of singing on wellbeing and health as part of a wider programme of research into the contribution of music activities in promoting the health and wellbeing of individuals and communities. This SEMPRE conference will focus on the need for a progressive research programme on Music, Health and Wellbeing.
