Positive practice in mental health

The annual positive practice in mental health awards has launched with categories including arts and mental health. Nominations are being accepted for projects or services which demonstrate positive practice by supporting and encouraging the creative talents of people with mental health problems.


Department of Health Honours call

The Department of Health has issued a call for nominations for the 2015 New Year Honours. The call is particularly looking for diverse suggestions to represent the full range of ways in which individuals can contribute to health care. Nominations should be for people who work for, volunteer or have made an outstanding contribution at any level within the health and care system over a sustained period of time.

NHS Participation Awards

The NHS England Excellence in Participation Awards is open for nominations. Designed to celebrate the contributions of people and organisations to improving health and care services and delivering patient centred care, the awards are focused on the ways in which individuals and communities are being actively involved in healthcare delivery. They include a special People’s Awards category which will recognise innovative approaches to involving children and young people, promoting volunteering and individual contribution.

HPCI Media has announced the winners of its ‘Building Better Healthcare’ Awards. The Award for Best Collaborative Arts Project went to Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board (in Wales) and ArtinSite. A full list of the winners can be found here w:

CoolTan Arts innovation award

London arts in mental health organisation CoolTan Arts has won an ‘Innovation Award’ for its Mental Health Wellbeing Advisers Project. Created by the South London Membership Council, the Innovation, Diffusion and Excellence in Healthcare Education and Training awards were created to celebrate innovation and educational excellence. The winning CoolTan Arts project, which has been awarded £50,000, aims to develop Mental Wellbeing Advisers that will enable people to actively participate in their own recovery.

Arts and Health South West Awards

Arts and Health South West has announced the winners of its annual awards. The Health Award was jointly awarded to Arts for Health Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly and to Healing Arts on the Isle of Wight. The Arts Award winner was Creativity Works in Bath. Individual awards were also presented to Jane Willis Director of arts consultancy Willis Newson and Rebecca Seymour a dance artist from Wiltshire.

Positive Practice in Mental Health Awards

As part of the Breakthrough National Positive Practice Awards, which have been re-launched this year, there will be an award for Art, Mental Health and Wellbeing.

Central & Cecil wins Growing Localities Award

The ‘Growing Together gardening group’ was the winner in the ‘Nature-themed arts and crafts’ category of the awards, which offer funding for London-based projects that improve local communities and, in particular, the lives of vulnerable people.

The gardening project was run at Cecil Court care home in Kew. During the project, a group of residents worked together on a number of different gardening activities, including making Christmas wreaths and decorations, flower arranging, garden related story telling and poems, and making homes for insects and birds.

Patient Experience National Network Awards 2012

Lime Arts has won the Patient Environment category of the Patient Experience National Network Awards for the Hydrotherapy Arts Project at the Dietetics and Therapy Centre of the new Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital.
