Koestler Trust – volunteers

The Koestler Trust has been awarding, exhibiting and selling artworks by offenders, detainees and high security patients for 50 years.

It is looking for volunteers to join its established Arts Mentoring project which support ex-offender artists making the transition from custody to community. Mentors will provide ten mentoring sessions over a 12-month period. Initial mentoring sessions may take place within a prison setting, although the majority will occur within the community.

Mentoring sessions may involve:

    * giving feedback on mentee’s latest artistic creations;
    * working on a joint project;
    * suggesting new ideas, materials and  resources;
    * accompanying a mentee to an arts event
    * supporting applications to further education or arts related courses;
    * encouraging the mentee to submit work to competitions or publications.

The Trust will give you full training and support, but it will be your energy and arts expertise that will guide these talented artists.
