Change to public advice to NICE

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) is planning changes to the way the public can help guide its areas of focus in the future. The changes present opportunities for non-health professionals to suggest areas for study and attention for the body which determines health and spending priorities for the NHS.

NICE creates guidance for the NHS, including recommendations for clinicians on treatments and health systems. After carrying out a year-long review, the organisation has created a set of principles and proposals for lay-person involvement in its decision-making.

‘Improving how patients and the public can help develop NICE guidance and standards’ is available here. The consultation on the proposals is now open for comments and will run until 28 February 2017.
