Winston Churchill Travelling Fellowships – deadline 23 September 2014

Applications are now open for 2015 Churchill Travelling Fellowships with designated opportunities for people working with the arts to create opportunities for older people.

Individuals who provide community activities and opportunities for older people covering creativity and person-centred care from across the art forms and including music, dance, drama and the fine arts are welcome to apply. A total of 150 Travelling Fellowships are available.

Heart poetry – deadline 16 July 2014

The Cardiovascular Research Trust has put out a call for poems on the heart written by children for children in order to promote the idea of keeping the heart healthy through diet and exercise. The selected poems will be published by the Hippocrates Poetry and Medicine press later this year. Poems on any aspect of the heart will be considered. The deadline for submissions is July 16, 2014.

The Royal British Society of Sculptors is currently inviting applications from early career sculptors for 10 Bursary Awards. 

International Writing Award – deadline 25 July 2014

The Scottish Mental Health Arts and Film Festival International Writing Competition 2014, led by Bipolar Scotland is seeking entries. Five categories are available: Poetry; Short Story; Diary/Blog; Newspaper Article; and Letter. The theme for the Festival and also the competition is “Power” and this can be interpreted in any way. The competition launched on Wednesday 19th March 2014 and will close on Friday 25th July 2014.

RSPH Arts and Health Awards – deadline 4 July 2014

The Royal Society for Public Health Arts and Health Awards recognise significant contributions to research and practice. Now in their seventh year, the awards will this year focus of the value of creative arts for older people with long-term conditions in the community or within health and social care settings. There is a particular emphasis on projects which address issues of diversity and inclusion for older people from minority ethnic, faith, sexual/gender and disability communities.

Over 60s Arts Awards – deadline 6 June 2014

The Elderly Accommodation Counsel’s Over 60s Art Awards encourage and celebrate the creativity of older amateur artists. The competition welcomes entries: from individual beginners and more experienced artists in a range of categories; from groups working on a collaborative project in any medium; from those who have taken up  Art in a therapeutic context. Entry is £5 per work to a maximum of 5 works. Postal and online entry both available.

Wellcome Trust Science Writing Prize 2014 – deadline 11 May 2014

The Wellcome Science Writing Prize offers the chance for anyone with an interest in science to join a new generation of science writers. Submit your 800-word article by 11 May 2014 and you could win £1000 and be published in the Guardian or the Observer. To enter you must be a non-published writer based in the UK or the Republic of Ireland. You can enter in either of two categories:

Tight Modern open for submissions - Deadline: 25 April 2014

‘Tight Modern happens every two years.  It’s a touring miniature replica of London’s iconic Tate Modern Gallery and showcases 60 marginalised artists in what we believe is the world’s smallest temporary gallery. This year’s Tight Modern will tour various venues, including Brighton Fringe Festival, Towner Art Gallery, Eastbourne and libraries across St Helens, Merseyside with prizes of £250, £175 and £75 for the public's favourite three artworks awarded in January 2015.  

Create Art – deadline 10 March 2014

The Create Art Award is an annual opportunity for London-based artists to deliver a project which actively involves communities in East London. Proposals for a project for 2014 are now being accepted. The award is open to any London based artist/artist collective, for a project to take place in East London and involve the active participation of the local community both in terms of process and experience. The project can be a piece of public artwork, an event, an experience or installation to rejuvenate the landscape and inspire the community.

International Design and Health awards – deadline 1 April 2014

The 10th International Design and Health Awards are inviting entries. Including an award for the Best Use of Art in the Patient Environment, the awards recognise excellence in research and practice from around the world. Awards will be unveiled at the World Congress in July in Toronto.
