Call for abstracts European Healthcare Design 2017 Congress & Exhibition - deadline 8 December 2016

The third European Healthcare Design 2017 Congress has issued a call for abstracts for presentations on a number of themes including “the art of care: creating compassionate places and environments”.

Other themes include:

Quality improvement: transforming health & care services

Care in the community: designing across the care continuum

Science, technology and digital health: what the future holds

Healthy ageing: inspiring, enabling and supporting older people

Sustainable development: design to promote health & biodiversity

Cancer and choirs

Sing with Us (a research project led by the Royal College of Music looking at how singing in choirs can affect mental health, wellbeing, quality of life, and social support in people affected by cancer) is looking for volunteer participants.

Balancing Arts

A man with experience of coping with depression is needed for a film project by Kaleido Film Collective and Feral Foxy Ladies.

The project is a multi-media performance Balancing Acts which will be shown at Camden People's Theatre in December 2016 and is a performance based around a series of interviews with people who wish to share their personal story on what it means to live and cope with depression.

Manifestations of the Mind

Artist Antonia Attwood is looking for participants with lived experience of mental ill health to take part in an in-depth arts project.

The aim is to collaborate to create immersive moving image and sound pieces. In October and November Antonia will hold weekly workshops and one to one sessions with those taking part. She will then go on to create a short film from the stories and experiences explored.


Call for papers - art and design in healthcare contexts - deadline 7 November 2016

The Association of Art Historians annual conference, will next year include a panel discussion exploring art and design in healthcare.

Taking place from 6 to 8 April 2017 at Loughborough University, the panel invites historians of art, architecture and design, as well as cultural practitioners, programmers and policymakers, to reflect upon, critique and question the forms and functions of contemporary and historical art and design practices in healthcare environments (hospitals, clinics, long-term care facilities, etc.).

Proposals invited for engage 39 journal – deadline 15 August 2016

Engage 39 is seeking international contributions relating to current social, economic and policy contexts for visual arts in health and wellbeing.

Questions they would like to address include:

1. What are the current social, economic and policy contexts for arts in health and wellbeing in the UK and internationally?

2. How these have changed over recent years and since the publication of engage Journal 30: Arts and Health, in summer 2012?

Female volunteers for performing arts summer school, London – 1 & 3 August 2016

Powerhouse for Women, an organisation that works with women with learning difficulties, is looking for female volunteers to help with sessions in Dance, Parkour, Music, Film and Theatre.

The Performing Arts Summer School will be held on on Monday 1 August and Wednesday 3 August 2016.

Storytelling for Health Conference call for contributors - deadline 3 November 2016

Next June, Swansea will play host to an international conference will bring together arts practitioners, health practitioners and researchers to acknowledge and celebrate the importance and growth of storytelling for health and to understand and promote good practice.

Contributions within the following three conference strands are being sought:

· Sharing good practice

· Sharing and building the evidence

· Embedding storytelling in health & sustainability
