A Year of Drawing, Sussex and Hampshire – October 2017-January 2018

A Year of Drawing, organised by Make Your Mark, aims to increase access to the arts for people facing mental health challenges and their carers through participatory drawing events across Sussex and Hampshire.

Arts in Health Research Intensive 29 January 2018 - 2 February 2018

The University of Florida Center for Arts in Medicine and the Arts Health Early Career Research Network is offering a five day introduction to the field of arts in health and fundamentals in evaluation and research.

The course will explore the development and scope of the field, consider the physiological, social and behavioural impacts of the arts in a health context, analyse research and evaluation methodologies that underpin the field and cover practicalities, issues and methods in arts in health research.              

Singing to Beat Parkinson’s – 29 & 20 January 2018

Snape Maltings in Suffolk is hosting a free weekend training workshop for practitioners planning to lead music and singing sessions for people living with Parkinson’s disease.

Creative Befrienders – 28 October 2017

Resonate Arts is looking for: volunteer artists of any discipline (visual art, music, drama, creative writing etc) who wish to explore their art with people living with dementia.

Artists will be offered training and will be matched with someone living in Westminster, Kensington & Chelsea or Hammersmith & Fulham who has an arts interest, taking part in a minimum of 8 visits – dates and times flexible, to suit you both. Expenses – including some tickets and entry fees are covered. An arts interest/background is essential.

Training for Group leaders working with Older People – 11 October 2017 & 18 October 2017

The Geffrye Museum is running two training days for group leaders, activity coordinators, volunteers and others working with older people in the London area offering introductions to creative activity and ways to enhance older people’s sense of wellbeing.

Open Afternoons – 18 October, 15 November & 13 December 2017

Arts and mental health charity, CoolTan Arts is hosting monthly Open Afternoons for anyone with an interest in how the creative arts can help improve mental wellbeing.

Visit CoolTan Arts on a monthly Open Afternoon to find out more about how they help adults experiencing mental ill health. Speak to staff, take a tour and try a taster arts workshop.

Sensing Movement: A Dance, Health and Wellbeing Symposium, Dublin – 28 July 2017

This one-day symposium will focus on connection, community and sustainable dance and health practice, supporting health practitioners, movers, teachers, students and those searching to connect in new ways through the moving body.

First "Relaxed Prom", London – 29 July 2017

The "relaxed prom" at the Royal Albert Hall will be a concert suitable for children and adults with autism, sensory and communication impairments and learning disabilities, as well as individuals who are deaf, hard of hearing, blind and partially sighted.

Presented by conductor Grant Llewellyn and musician Andy Pidcock, the first ever Relaxed Prom is a fun and interactive musical experience in a welcoming environment, with plenty of opportunities for participation.

Arts and culture organisations push parties ahead of General Election

A number of arts and culture organisations – including the Museums Association, One Dance UK, the Creative Industries Federation, and the Cultural Learning Alliance – have issued manifestos ahead of the general election. The Creative Industries Federation is also hosting a series of events at which leading figures from the Conservatives, Labour, Liberal Democrats and the Scottish National Party will speak about their party’s approach to the arts and creative industries and take part in a Q&A session.
