All Party Parliamentary Group meets

The new All Party Parliamentary Group for Arts, Health and Wellbeing met for the first time earlier this month. The meeting was themed around The Care Act and the question: How the arts and culture can contribute to the quality of care following the Francis Inquiry? It was well attended by politicians from both Houses of Parliament and all three main political parties.

The keynote speaker was Sir Robert Francis QC, (author of the Francis Report) along with Dr Ellen Storm (winner of the Hippocrates Prize for Poetry), Nikki Crane from Guy’s and St Thomas’s Charity and Suzy Wilson, Artistic Director of Clod Ensemble. The discussion focused on the role the arts can play in medical training and in creating a culture of care in health organisations. The minutes of the meeting will be posted on the www.artshealthandwellbeing.org.uk site in due course. Future meetings will address the arts and dementia and the way in which the arts can contribute to delivering parity of esteem between mental and physical health provision.
